Why has popular music become so awful?

music today is really bad, and this is not a matter of taste its all around awful. the lyrics, the lack of musicians, the overall popularity of it shocks me. who is buying this crap? Ex: rap in general, death metal, lady gagon, kelly clarkson, black eyed peas, and anyone else who is out today
