Better my overall career down the line?

should i take a job that pays less than my current, a good amount, but ultimately gets me into a field that i think would better my overall career down the line. say make a monetary sacrafice now to get a solid foothold in for your future. i hate my job now, for health hazards, but the money is damn good. what to do?
